I discovered another fun application this week called the Political Compass via Divided We Stand United We Fall. The application administers a brief test that asks users a host of political questions. The application then scores their answers and plots these scores on the following grid:

I scored a 3.88 on the economic left/right axis and a 1.23 on the social libertarian/authoritarian axis. In essence, I favor free market economic policies (within reason) and am slightly more conservative when it comes to social policies (again, within reason).
The site also provides a map of where several famous and/or notorious world leaders would place on the grid.

Reflections of a Rational Republican 
I was in the left libertarian section, pretty strongly libertarian (on social/civil issues) and only moderately left on economic issues. I was: Economic Left/Right: -2.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.31. That puts me close to the bottom slightly left of the center.

I’m very curious to see if anyone comes out in the upper left quadrant.
I came out pretty much dead in the center on economics (0.12) and moderately libertarian (-2.36). I’ve taken (a href=”http://www.gotoquiz.com/politics/political-spectrum-quiz.html”) another online quiz with different questions that placed me on the border of all 4 quadrants (Right: 0.47, Libertarian: 0.65)
I was 3.50 on Economic Left/Right, and -2.41 on Social Libertarian/Authoritarian.
I think my answer to the “multinationals act unethically” skewed my results! 🙂

A bit of a disconcerting result as I generally think of libertarianism as something of a joke. Of course, being a registered Green, that probably puts me in the position of the proverbial black pot.

It looks like I’m still the only person on my site in the “authoritarian” column. I’m starting to feel kinda lonely. 😉
The Greens are the poster party for left libertarianism. As an ideology left libertarians have a similar distrust for centralized power and government as do capitalist libertarians, but they extend that distrust to big business and big money (they distrust all centralized power, not just government).
Economic: 5.50
Social: -3.59
Some questions were a touch vague. Personally I DO want religious values taught to my kids. However, we are going to attend a Christian Private School next year. If the question stated that I was in a public school, then the answer would have been different.

Pino, that sounds about right. I guess that’s why my soldiers never blinked when they needed to talk to someone when they contracted STDs…I wish I were kidding. But I’m not.

Not trying to draw a direct comparison obviously, but I find it a useful illustration that Christ would have been comfortable counseling those same soldiers for those same ailments absent those same “conclusions”.

Wow. This chart is fascinating. If these numbers are reflective of the real views of these folks, i would agree with you. I wonder if the results would change if they updated the numbers for 2011.
