It’s been nearly ten months since I started this blog, and I wanted to get a sense for what type of audience I have. My hypothesis is that most readers are in the moderate range (both liberal and conservative), but I will never know unless I poll my audience.
Without further ado, here is the official poll. I appreciate your help in advance.
A small quibble about this poll (and the way American politics is portrayed in general) is that it’s two dimensional. That’s logical with an electoral system that gives us two parties, but the variety of perspectives that people hold aren’t easily turned into liberal and conservative. There are various mixes of: nationalist, social conservative, market libertarian (orthodox liberal), green, left libertarian, socialist, interventionist liberal (what we call ‘liberal’), social democratic, socialist, neo-fascist, internationalist, moralist, etc. I don’t mean this as a criticism, just noting that we tend to miss some of the diversity in how people view politics/the world.
I do think most people are on a continuum of liberalism between orthodox liberal (usually Republicans, people who want minimal intervention in the market) and interventionist liberal (usually Democrats, people who think state intervention is necessary for markets to work effectively and fairly).
I completely agree. I was going to ask more questions to get at that, but didn’t want to give people poll fatigue. 😉
It is a bit like that political compass exercise I published a few months ago.
